Does the "Number of views on articles you've edited" on the editor homepage show views for total edits or only for your recent activity (last 60 days)?
Does the "views on articles you've edited" number for editors show the number of views from all contributions made on this account, or only recent contributions (i,e,, edits made in the last 60 days)?
For some reason, the "number of views on articles you've edited" shown on my homepage (in the "Your impact" box for my account) has DECREASED overnight by almost 100,000 views. I was wondering if I could get more information on why this happened, and what this number (on the homepage) actually refers to — does it show the TOTAL number of views from ALL edits made (since your FIRST edit), or just the number of views from your RECENT activity (i.e., edits you've made in the last 60 days)? How could I see the "most viewed" articles since my first edit, as opposed to just the last 60 days? Finally, what does the term "since" mean in this context, specifically for the phrase — "Most viewed (since your edit)" — used immediately before the list of articles (at the bottom of the "Your impact" box)?
I hope my question(s) make sense — I am so sorry for any confusion or misunderstanding on my part.
Thank you so much for your time and help!!

- Hi @OSINTsparrow, Pageview shows how many people have visited an article in a given time period. You can use this tool toolforge:pageviews for detailed page stats.

- Anyone who regularly provides answers at the Teahouse should certainly try out the new-user homepage feature (by checking the box at "Display newcomer homepage" at the foot of Special:Preferences and saving). All new user accounts now have this feature, as an extra tab on their UserPage. There are frequently questions about it here. New users are assigned a mentor and the homepage gives a link to them, as well as various summaries of the user's contributions. Mike Turnbull (talk) 11:04, 11 November 2023 (UTC)

Bad Experience Reviewing for GA
I just completed a GA review for Newburgh, Dutchess and Connecticut Railroad. As someone who formerly worked in the railroad industry, I found some things misleading or untrue. I tried to get those things corrected, and much of the problem was fixed. In the end, I made two changes in order to clarify and end the misleading statements—because the author would not. I believed those were necessary in order to pass the article. After the article passed and received its GA notification, the author changed my two changes back to the misleading statements. This seems unethical to me. Am I pressing too much for a GA review? Is it OK if a GA Wikipedia article has misleading statements? I doubt that I will ever review a railroad article again, and I don't want to get in an edit–war with someone who has made so many contributions to Wikipedia. TwoScars (talk) 17:36, 10 November 2023 (UTC)
- @TwoScars: Are you talking about these edits - diff? If so, at least at first glance, they do not seem catastrophic. They elide some detail, but possibly don't make the greatest impact on the subject of the article, the Newburgh, Dutchess and Connecticut Railroad, since that was established some 11 years after these 1866 events? --Tagishsimon (talk) 19:28, 10 November 2023 (UTC)
- Why ask this here, rather than WP:GAN? 1.33.56.248 (talk) 19:41, 10 November 2023 (UTC)
- Why not? TwoScars seems comfortable asking questions here, and we're happy to answer them. It is not always helpful to interpose a suggestion that a user is asking a question in the wrong place, not least when it is clear that the question has been engaged. --Tagishsimon (talk) 19:45, 10 November 2023 (UTC)
- @Tagishsimon: Yes, those two edits. If they do not seem catastrophic, then I will back off. My problem was that 1) the article seems to imply that the D&C simply had its name changed to become the ND&C when the reality was that management was different; and 2) after the D&C leased the line to the BH&E, you cannot imply that the D&C began providing service on June 21—it was the BH&E that operated the line they leased and provided all rolling stock. Anyway, I will quit worrying about this. It just seemed unethical to change something, that was critical to the article becoming GA, back to the unsatisfactory version after the GA rating was received. TwoScars (talk) 19:55, 10 November 2023 (UTC)
- "GA" does not mean "perfect": an article can always be improved further. Perhaps rather than reverting to an earlier (and somewhat convoluted) wording, you should think about (re-)adding the information in question in other ways, such as spreading information over two (or more) sentences instead of one. {The poster formerly known as 87.81.230.195} 94.2.5.208 (talk) 20:14, 10 November 2023 (UTC)

TwoScars (talk) 19:55, 10 November 2023 (UTC)
- @TwoScars: If I remember correctly, the artcle being stable is a GA criteria, and so reverting a change immediately on a GA being awarded is unfortunate; and I noted in the GA Review discussion of this point, so to have the change immediately after the GA award reasonably leads to a concern that there was a lack of sincerity in the process. In your position I would feel annoyed.
- Equally, the changes are in the lead, which is always a summary of the body and which thus loses some of the nuance found in the body. My evaluation is that the changes are minor and do not substantially change my understanding of the article.
- My reading of the Beginnings, Expansion, and the Newburgh, Dutchess and Connecticut sections of the body don't convey the impression that the D&C simply had its name changed to become the ND&C; not least, there were any amount of mergers and then "the NYB&M went bankrupt, followed by the D&C.[1]: 15 The Clove Branch again became independent.[4]: 25 The D&C was sold at foreclosure in August 1876.[1]: 15 It was reorganized January 15, 1877, as the Newburgh, Dutchess and Connecticut Railroad." Something which went bankrupt, was sold, was reorganised, is describing a series of events that are more than a name change.
- I hope this evaluation is some consolation? --Tagishsimon (talk) 21:42, 10 November 2023 (UTC)
If you haven't done so, you could post this discussion on the author's talk page to let him know you are not pleased. Smallchief (talk) 22:13, 10 November 2023 (UTC)
@TwoScars: Thanks for doing a GA review! There's an ongoing struggle to get the backlog down. I'll try to answer some of your questions below:
Is it OK if a GA Wikipedia article has misleading statements?
Every article will have misleading statements at some point, so it's not a massive problem. I would drop a message on the user's talk page to engage them. If they understand the problem they may revert on their own, or try another wording. If they do not seem catastrophic, then I will back off.
Not to me at least. I would say that the wording with "original" twice in one long sentence could even be unintentionally misleading because it's so difficult to follow. It just seemed unethical to change something, that was critical to the article becoming GA, back to the unsatisfactory version after the GA rating was received.
Again, I'd drop a message on the nominator's talk page. They might not be devious, just mistaken.
And finally, I hope this doesn't come off too prescriptive, but I want to invite you to look at the process from another angle. If we're here to build an encyclopedia, then the goal of assessment projects are to guide our progress and provide a structured way to improve Wikipedia's articles. Compare the article to its state before your review[1] or even before the nominator began working towards a GA review[2] and you'll see a clear improvement to sourcing and factual accuracy. Sorry it was sour experience for you, Rjjiii (talk) 07:25, 11 November 2023 (UTC)
How to add optional rows and interactive maps to a template?
Hi! I'm improving a template (which I use to create info-boxes) for a Wikipedia Project in the Incubator. I would like to add optional rows and an interactive map to template. The problem of the current template is that 1) non applicable rows appear in some articles, and 2) I have to upload location maps individually, instead of just entering geographical coordinates. How can I solve that? Thank you very much! Anaxicrates (talk) 16:25, 7 November 2023 (UTC)
- Anaxicrates, which template are you working on? Rjjiii (ii) (talk) 01:29, 8 November 2023 (UTC)
- This one: https://incubator.wikimedia.org/wiki/Template:Wp/grc/Ἀρχαία_Πόλις
- And here is how it can be used: https://incubator.wikimedia.org/wiki/Wp/grc/Μέγαρα_(ἀρχαία_πόλις)
- And: https://incubator.wikimedia.org/wiki/Wp/grc/Ἀλαλίη (here some rows are irrelevant) Anaxicrates (talk) 01:43, 8 November 2023 (UTC)
- Thanks for the links Anaxicrates! I think I can offer an answer for your question (1): Are you familiar with conditional expressions? These allow templates to change their displayed content depending on which parameters are filled out. There is an explanation at Help:Designing infoboxes at "
Field conditionally displayed
". If you look at the source code for Template:Infobox person, you'll see many examples of it in action.[3] (That template is making the table indirectly via Module:Infobox if it seems odd to see no table markup.) Rjjiii (talk) 02:12, 8 November 2023 (UTC)- Thank you very much for your help! I've solved a problem, but I've created another. I had already figured out that using the infobox template could have been a good solution. However, I had problems using it, because (apparently, I'm not an expert) the existent module could only be used in the English Wikipedia. However, now I've created (i.e., copy-pasted) the module in the Ancient Greek Wikipedia Incubator.
- Here is the copy-pasted module: https://incubator.wikimedia.org/wiki/Module:Wp/grc/Πινάκιον_Πύστεων
- I also had to re-create this, since I got an error message: https://incubator.wikimedia.org/wiki/Module:Wp/grc/Infobox/styles.css
- Here is the new "ancient polis" infobox template: https://incubator.wikimedia.org/wiki/Template:Wp/grc/Πινάκιον_Ἀρχαία_Πόλις
- Here is an article in which I use the new template: https://incubator.wikimedia.org/wiki/Wp/grc/Ἀγύριον_(ἀρχαία_πόλις)
- Optional rows work now. However, there are some problems, mainly the infobox style: I initially got an error and I had to re-create the "infobox styles" module linked above, but nothing has changed, apparently. Secondarily, I still have to figure out how to use pictures, but I hope I can work that out. Unfortunately, I'm not a programmer and I don't understand the meaning of the code completely. Anaxicrates (talk) 14:00, 8 November 2023 (UTC)
- @Anaxicrates: I'm glad to hear you're making progress. As you get into these more specific questions, I would suggest starting a thread at one of the talk pages below and optionally to drop a link on the others with {{Please see}}, especially if you don't get any replies in a few days:
- Good luck, Rjjiii (talk) 04:52, 10 November 2023 (UTC)

- I am not Goingbatty, Unleashgift, but I'll comment all the same. This draft currently consists of two sentences. If these say all that can be said about her, I'd say that she doesn't merit an article. (Maybe it's just too soon.) I note that the second sentence reads "She is best known for her role in Zhang Yibai's youth drama Run for Young (2020) and Song of Life (2022)." Best known for what? (Her sonorous voice, her lustrous hair, the psychological depth of her acting, the physicality of her acting, the credibility of the relationship her character has with some other character....) Incidentally, if these two films are so important for her notability, then what are their actual titles? Why was this middle school page deleted from Wikipedia?
I found this article of a Hawaii intermediate school, which was deleted Special:diff/914522376 a few years ago] (and changed to a redirect) citing "WP:A7", a guideline that articles "not of importance" should be deleted. However, the "A7 guidelines" explicitly say that it doesn't apply to schools. So why was this article deleted? Hawaii high schools have pages on Wikipedia, so are intermediates not important? Is there some sort of other notability guideline of note? It should also be noted that the page currently redirects to a list of Hawaii middle schools.
Theadventurer64 (talk) 21:46, 11 November 2023 (UTC)
- Hello, Theadventure64, and welcome to the Teahouse.
- You're right, that educational institutions are explicitly excepted from WP:A7, and so that should not have been applied. In fact, the notice was removed in the next edit. But the edit after that converted it to a redirect, citing WP:SCHOOLOUTCOMES, which says
Most elementary (primary) and middle schools that don't source a clear claim to notability usually get merged or redirected to the school district authority that operates them (generally the case in North America) or the lowest level locality (elsewhere or where there is no governing body)
. - You can look at the text that was there in the history of the redirect, but it does nothing to establish that the school is notable in Wikipedia's sense.
- If you think that there are sufficient independent reliable published sources about the school to base an encyclopaedia article on, I suggest you read WP:YFA, and create a draft using the articles for creation process. When you submit it for review, if it passes review, than the reviewing editor who accepts it will sort out the redirect. ColinFine (talk) 22:05, 11 November 2023 (UTC)
- It was deleted because it had no reliable sources. Arguing as to whether or not A7 should have applied would be wikilawyering. Some schools make the grade - they have sources. Some do not. There is a schools notability guideline at WP:NSCHOOL. --Tagishsimon (talk) 22:10, 11 November 2023 (UTC)

Is revert only when necessary followed?
Is Wikipedia:Revert only when necessary actually followed? I am a new Wikipedia editor trying to make my first edit on Marvel Snap and I took a lot of time detailing a new section of the page with sources and it was reverted with the note: "Usage of unreliable sources, overly detailed and inappropriate tone". I accepted that feedback and took the time to revise my sources, cut back on the details, and changed my tone just to have it reverted once again by the same user with no note this time. This is making Wikipedia editing an unpleasant experience and makes me want to just give up even volunteering my time to edits. Note that I did reach out to the user on their talk page. After reading their talk page, it looks like I am not the only one experiencing reverts from this user and they don't always reply so I am not hopeful this route will come to a resolution. Cozy Manager (talk) 21:00, 11 November 2023 (UTC)
- Hi @Cozy Manager:! I'm not experienced enough to be able to help in this specific scenario, but I wanted to say as a fellow new(ish) editor, I understand how frustrating this is. I had a very similar experience when I first started editing (multiple reverts from one editor with very little justification or discussion, who also had a talk page filled with disagreements and grumblings from others), and it was extremely off-putting. But I want to assure you that most of my time since has been much more pleasant! Sometimes you run into people you disagree with and who make things frustrating, but the vast majority of my time on Wikipedia so far has been a really good experience, and I'm glad I didn't let the bad experience put me off. I'm sorry your first experiences editing Wikipedia haven't been great, but I want to wish you a warm welcome and I really hope you stick around! Quuxbazbarfoo (talk) 21:16, 11 November 2023 (UTC)
- Hi there! Thank you so much for your understanding and kind words. It means a lot, especially as I navigate these initial challenges. Your experience gives me hope that things will get better, and I appreciate your warm welcome. Cozy Manager (talk) 21:23, 11 November 2023 (UTC)
- @Cozy Manager:, wikipedia editing is not easy. Referring to your second edit, the first two sentences are referenced to the marvelsnap website, and start "Thanks to the developers' focus on ...", so that would be a distinctly not neutral description citing a non-neutral source. Neither is encyclopaedic. We then get a sentence on who won, not cited; who won this competition says nothing about the subject of the article, it is offtopic. Then an ER and EGL Sports sentence uncited. Then a twitch claim whch cites a schedule, but provides a bunch of information not in the cited source. This does not make the grade. Information needs to be tied to independent reliable sources; it needs to be on-topic; it needs to be neutral in tone. Where it is not, it should and generally will get reverted. The resolution is in your hands. --Tagishsimon (talk) 21:27, 11 November 2023 (UTC)
- Hello,Cozy Manager. Please be aware that Wikipedia:Revert only when necessary is just an essay, not a policy or even a guideline. The most important thing is that adding content requires Consensus if challenged by another editor. Consensus is policy. Your first set of edits were overtly promotional, and promotional language is not permitted on Wikipedia. Your more recent edit included this promotional language,

referenced to Marvel Snap's own website. There is no way that is a good edit. I recommend that you read the Neutral point of view and refrain from promotional editing of any kind. Cullen328 (talk) 21:30, 11 November 2023 (UTC)- It is too bad that is not a policy or even a guideline since it seem like that would foster a better experience for editors here. Cozy Manager (talk) 21:40, 11 November 2023 (UTC)
- I had a feeling that my 2nd edit might also have a problem so I look the time to look at a similar page, hearthstone, and followed the format on that page. It seems like Wikipedia is not consistent on what is acceptable across all of their pages which can be hard to know how to edit if you can't look at examples on Wikipedia itself. - The principles are easy to understand and easy to test for. Is it neutral? Is the source reliable, independent? Is it about the subject of the article? Ask those questions. Comparing your text on article A with text on article B is not illuminating. Cozy Manager, your second edit was not even close to being acceptable. There is inconsistency across WP, obvs, b/c it's a big place with too few volunteers. But that is not the issue here. Your experience is not a WP fail. --Tagishsimon (talk) 21:47, 11 November 2023 (UTC)
- Hello, Cozy manager, and welcome to the Teahouse. I'm afraid that is true. We have more than six million articles, and several thousand active volunteer editors, who work on what they choose; most of them for some reason don't seem to want to spend much of their time getting some of our (probably well ovrer a million) seriously deficient articles up to scratch, or deleting them if they can't be improved. (I include myself among that). Many of these were created when we were less careful about standards, especially for sourcing, than we are now: see OTHERSTUFFEXISTS.

- The other thing I would add, Cozy Manager, is that. particularly as a new editor, I recommend making many small edits rather than one large one. There are various reasons for this, but the particular one I'm thinking of is that if part of your edit is problematic, it is likely that another editor will revert the whole thing, rather than pick it apart and change the problematic bits - they might, but again, there are only so many editors, with only so much time available. If you make several small edits they can revert only the problematic ones. ColinFine (talk) 21:52, 11 November 2023 (UTC)

Article page curation
Hi Teahouse! I've written a few articles recently, and I'm interested to know if there's any general wisdom on getting articles reviewed through page curation. Most of my articles get reviewed within a couple of hours, but two of them (Century Crack and Bristol Old Vic silver tickets) have been sitting in the queue for a few weeks. It's not a big deal, I know the queue is thousands of articles long, but I'm wondering for future reference why some articles are reviewed very quickly and some take a lot longer, and if there's anything I can do to make the process easier for would-be reviewers of my articles. (The main reason I'm wondering is because I know search engines don't index unreviewed articles, and these articles have been the focus of news events where people might have been searching for them.)
For both of these I created them in draft or userspace then moved them into mainspace, could that have affected the review process?
Cheers for any insight you can provide! :) Quuxbazbarfoo (talk) 16:57, 11 November 2023 (UTC)
- Quuxbazbarfoo, I'm not the best person to answer this, as I'm not involved in the review process. But I believe that there are two steps in the process. When you submitted the articles for review, you applied for the first step. You then bypassed, or circumvented, that step by moving them to mainspace yourself. The second step is one that many article creators are unaware off. When an article arrives in mainspace, either because it's accepted by a reviewer or because someone put it there directly, it waits for the second step before it's made visible to search engines. Eventually someone assesses it, and may deem it worthy of mainspace and of being seen by search engines; or move it to draft for further work; or destroy it. If that second step never happens because no-one gets round to checking it, after six months it's made visible to search engines anyway. (If I were a reviewer, I'd accept both those articles.) Maproom (talk) 22:18, 11 November 2023 (UTC)
- Hi, thanks for the response! My understanding (though please do correct me if I'm misunderstanding anything) is that the Wikipedia:Articles for Creation process is optional (for autoconfirmed users), and orthogonal (or, at least, supplemental) to the Wikipedia:New Page Patrol process. I did initially use the AfC template for Century Crack, but figured I have enough editing experience now that I'd rather not wait for the AfC process, as I know there is a long backlog for it. Several of my other articles have since been reviewed under the New Page Patrol automatically (without going through AfC), so I think you're right that these ones just slippped under the radar of the reviewers, possibly due to the self-move from draft/userspace.
- That's useful to hear that they get auto-approved after 6 months anyway, I didn't realise that. Cheers! Quuxbazbarfoo (talk) 22:31, 11 November 2023 (UTC)
- Last I heard it was actually 90 days (unless reviewed by the NPP earlier), but that may have changed. Drafts that are entirely untouched for 6 months are elegible for deletion as 'abandoned'.
- When drafts are submitted, they go into a (large) pool (not an ordered queue), from which the volunteer reviewers tend to quickly Decline or Reject obviously inadequate candidates, and quickly Approve obviously well-written and well-referenced ones. Those which are less well written, and/or have borderline-quality references, or have references more difficult to assess (such as being in a different language, or not online, both of which are allowed) tend to wait longer before one of the volunteers feels ready to tackle them. Hope this illuminates. {The poster formerly known as 87.81.230.195} 94.2.5.208 (talk) 00:29, 12 November 2023 (UTC)
- They don't get approved, it's just that the 'unpatrolled' tag expires. Such a page can still be deleted if it's garbage. DS (talk) 00:47, 12 November 2023 (UTC)

There is much news surrounding the achievements of Aram Tufan. He has been invited to numerous talks in London and was named Entrepreneur of the Year at the prestigious Great British Entrepreneurship Awards. His life serves as an inspiration to many in the LGBTQI+ community. As an organization that supports the success of LGBTQ+ individuals globally, it's important to acknowledge his successful journey and to use it as a beacon to inspire countless other young people. All the references have been given and only two of them are based on interviews from very trusted resources. 85.104.3.136 (talk) HalilAtaman (talk) 14:04, 11 November 2023 (UTC)
- Welcome to the Teahouse, IP editor. There must be enough secondary sources and the subject must meet the threshold of the WP:BIO guidelines. If all conditions are met, you can write a draft article in your sandbox. Leoneix (talk) 14:22, 11 November 2023 (UTC)
- @HalilAtaman: Welcome to Wikipedia:Teahouse/Questions/Archive 1206. While I believe that Tufan may be inspiring to the LGBT community, Wikipedia's concern is if he is wikinotable, and in its mission to be informative it is not to be used as a soapbox or for promotion. —Tenryuu 🐲 ( 💬 • 📝 ) 14:51, 11 November 2023 (UTC)
- Hi IP editor.
- My second decline was because you re-submitted without a single change, which is considered quite rude. If you had questions about my first decline feel free to ask me. I felt your sources were not WP:INDEPENDENT. Let's go through each source in turn:
- Uni of Westminster: not independent of Aram.
- Fresh Business Thinking: link now 404's but I believe it was an interview, so not independent.
- Times Higher Education: Written by Aram, so not independent.
- Uni of Westminster: the same as source #1
- Uni of Westminster: not independent of Aram.
- Uni of Westminster: not independent of Aram.
- londragazete: this works as a source.
- FT: not independent of Aram.
- ArchDaily: not independent of Aram.
- I am gay myself, so please don't think I declined this article for any kind of anti-LGBT bias. You simply have not sourced it correctly.
- If you can find some secondary sources that are independent of Aram please do let me know by WP:PINGing me on my User Talk Page, and I will have another look. Qcne (talk) 15:00, 11 November 2023 (UTC)
- I imagine that "Pursuing further linguistic education" and "continued his academic journey" mean "Wanting to improve his English" and "studied" respectively. Note that a Wikipedia article is written to inform, not to express the awe in which the writer holds the subject. -- Hoary (talk) 01:08, 12 November 2023 (UTC)
Why is my article considered unambiguous advertising?
I tried to create a factual overview of an investment bank - AMB, but it was considered unambiguous advertising. How is this the case when I can find overviews on all sorts of companies? Do I need to add a history section? That seems to be more self-promoting in my mind, but I will do so if needed. Please advise and would be glad to hop on the phone to get some guidance if easier.

- WikiPatron00, Draft:Ambwealth (Allen, Mooney & Barnes), which cites nothing that even starts to resemble a disinterested source, reads like a PR blurb, the kind of thing that the company would put on its own website. I read on your user page that "This user has publicly declared that they have a conflict of interest regarding the Wikipedia article ambwealth (Allen, Mooney & Barnes)." No surprise there. But given that the draft sounds as if it was written directly for the company, what is surprising is the lack of a declaration that you were paid. Please read Wikipedia:Paid-contribution disclosure. Probably the best thing to do is just to stop. However, if you're determined to continue, then forget everything that the company says (whether directly or via some PR firm), look for what Wikipedia regards as reliable sources, and base a draft on those. Incidentally, we do realize that Wikipedia already has a lot of articles that are feeble; we're trying to eliminate these, but it's a major job. -- Hoary (talk) 01:31, 12 November 2023 (UTC)
I took a photo of an example of an “Arablish” restaurant but there is a drawing in the centre. Is it okay to upload?
The restaurant is “Lazeez cafe” if you want to look it up. I thought it might be good use on the Arablish article, but there is a drawing of a chef in the centre. I fear it might be a derivative work as a result. Thought I should ask here though, hoping it is not. Slamforeman (talk) 01:32, 12 November 2023 (UTC)

homepage v user page v talk page
Newbie here. I've read many of the Wiki help pages but still don't understand the difference between the user's homepage, user page & talk pages. Is there an article that explains the differences? Also, how do I find this again so I can see any replies? Thanks. Sunandshade (talk) 05:41, 11 November 2023 (UTC)
- @Sunandshade: Welcome to Wikipedia:Teahouse/Questions/Archive 1206. The user homepage is a relatively new feature, and you can read more about it here. It's generally used to give new users ideas about how to contribute to the wiki. The user page is for introducing yourself (to an extent), and the user talk page is for other editors (or bots) to leave messages for you. —Tenryuu 🐲 ( 💬 • 📝 ) 05:44, 11 November 2023 (UTC)

Can I retroactively claim an edit I made?
I made a fairly large edit to a Wiki page and while I was doing so, was concentrating on making sure I had accurate references and didn't think to create an account to claim the edits I made. However, after I hit publish, I realized my edit was substantial and was pleased with my addition to the article, and I hadn't made it under any account. I immediately created a wiki user account in order to be able to do so in the future, but want to know if there is any way I can retroactively claim an edit I made? I hit submit, and then realized right away afterwards my folly, so immediately made an account- so the edit I made will be attached to the same IP as the IP matched to my account (unsure if this is helpful or not but thought I'd include for thoroughness). If there is anyway to do so, I would greatly appreciate being able to claim my edits, especially as I can be forgetful sometimes and may forget to login in the future while doing minor edits or while tired so this will be useful forever! Justyouraveragewikieditor (talk) 09:46, 12 November 2023 (UTC)
- Hello, Justyouraveragewikieditor. There is no technical way in normal circumstances to connect an IP edit with a newly registered account. However, you are entirely free to click on your currently missing, redlinked user page, and tell us about yourself as a Wikipedia editor. That might include something like "Before I registered my account, I edited Article So-and-so". Cullen328 (talk) 09:58, 12 November 2023 (UTC)
- It appears that you 'solved' this problem by registering for this account, deleting the content you had added to Jens Söring without an account, and then restoring it minutes later while logged in to your account. David notMD (talk) 11:02, 12 November 2023 (UTC)
- Editors do not 'own' articles, not their edits to articles. Going forward, an editor might decide that your addition - the last paragraph of the Documentaries section - is inappropriately over-detailed (I, for one, think so) and cut parts. Do not get into edit wars in attempts to perserve your wording. Lastly, see WP:MINOR for when to tag edits as minor. David notMD (talk) 11:11, 12 November 2023 (UTC)
- Yes, this is what I did as suggested by another user that I thought would do the trick. I did not do so because I believe I own the article, it's that I was pleased with my addition and realized I wanted to continue to log future revisions to articles and thought that my revision to that article was a great place to start in logging my contributions. I'm sorry you found it was inappropriately over-detailed; I prefer to be thorough especially in what I like to find out as a reader of wiki articles to see if I want to go explore on my own and learn more or not. I'm not looking to get into an edit war to preserve wording; if someone wants to cut parts as they deem fit, that's part of the process of collaboration. Thank you for the tip, I didn't notice that my first edit but have marked it that way now. Justyouraveragewikieditor (talk) 11:17, 12 November 2023 (UTC)

- Please note the lack of references to reliable sources, and the anodyne, banal prose that seems to hint that this person must be notable, without making any clear claim of notability. Is there a tool to see where a source/URL has been used/cited on WikiPedia?
I have noticed what appears to be unrelated links inserted/cited in articles. Example "Xyz.com" added to a page about ABC---which has nothing to do with XYZ.com, and XYZ.com is not a reliable source.
Is there a way for me to find out all the times "XYZ.com" has been used as a source?
[Im using that as an example obviously] Comintell (talk) 08:29, 12 November 2023 (UTC)

- @Comintell See also Help:Searching#Search string syntax, especially about using so-called "insource" searching. That can be used to find strings of text such as a web link that wouldn't appear in the text as rendered in an article but do occur in the source code. Recognising AI generated content
I have been monitoring an article Abhishek Malhan which was being developed mainly by an user User:Columbidae5. Till this revision (https://www.mdata.vn/w/index.php?lang=en&title=Abhishek_Malhan&oldid=1184439147) everything was fine, i had mentioned issues in the talk page and the user fixed it. What surprised me in this revision (https://www.mdata.vn/w/index.php?lang=en&title=Abhishek_Malhan&oldid=1184584332) was that the user's vocabulary and choice of words became very "professional","unnatural" and were against WP:PEACOCK. I suspected that the the new content added was AI generated. I didn't raise the issue with the user and removed all the peacock terms from the article.
I wanted to know how to effectively recognise AI generated content?

- I also added a rfc tag in the talk page regarding its notability. Consider sharing your opinion so that we can decide with consensus. Leoneix (talk) 16:23, 12 November 2023 (UTC)
- @Leoneix: I looked at the version which you posted here, which has a diff of only a few words; and at the sources. I cannot see that there is any evidence to support your AI concern. Nor can I see any issue about the notability of the subject, and so I removed the notability tag on the article. There is maybe a question for WP to address on the subject of AI text, although I imagine the answer will be, if properly sourced & referenced, is okay. Nor can I see any issue about the notability of the subject, and so I removed the notability tag on the article. There is maybe a question for WP to address on the subject of AI text, although I imagine the answer will be, if properly sourced & referenced, is okay. Complaint on a Wikipedia Editor
How do I go about making a complaint on a Wikipedia editor who's been undoing my revisions for being "unsourced", when I have told them that I'll be working on the sources gradually? I understand they volunteer their effort for this work, but so do I. I'm not on Wikipedia the whole time and may need dedicated time just to write and edit. Can't the editor remind me to add citations (I've seen other editors do this) instead of immediately deleting/undoing my revisions? Thank you! Nellaireb (talk) 14:02, 12 November 2023 (UTC)
- You can complain at WP:ANI but you should be prepared to come off worse from the encounter. Biographies of living people are held to a higher standard. Seen in that context, reverting your edits and advising you to add sources at the same time as adding material is treating you very gently. Cabayi (talk) 14:11, 12 November 2023 (UTC)
- Thank you for the reply. If you see the page I'm editing, I have to look for sources in languages that I'm not fluent in and they go a few years back. All I'm asking is time. Nellaireb (talk) 14:21, 12 November 2023 (UTC)

- A WP:BLP is not a CV. It is supposed to be a summary of WP:RS that are independent of the subject. Listing every guest appearance likely fails WP:PROPORTION. If a specific guest appearance got coverage in decent WP:RS, it may be worth including. Gråbergs Gråa Sång (talk) 15:39, 12 November 2023 (UTC)

- Hello Nellaireb. If you are working from a computer you may want to start your editing work using an offline document. I have a Mac, so use TextEdit, but I believe PCs have Notebook. I create a document to store information from sources I’ve found, format my reference citations, and add notes on the data sourced from each reference. I may spend a couple weeks gathering information, that I store outside of Wikipedia, before I start the actual editing process. Best wishes on your Wikipedia projects. How do I make a correction to a fact that is incorrect ? on a page

Where should I ask for protection on an article? The Calgary and Edmonton articles should probably have some sort of protection. It is surprising to me that articles with as many views are unprotected and open to editing by IP addresses, especially with both being considered vital articles (level 4 for Calgary, and level 5 for Edmonton). Edmonton in particular seems to have quite a bit of vandalism by IP users to the point that it was protected from September 25-30 for persistent vandalism. Not even 2 weeks later after the protection expired, these IP users started their vandalism again. Calgary doesn't seem to have the same level of vandalism, but enough I feel to warrant protection. How do I propose a new feature for wikipedia
I think there's a new features proposal thing that occasionally happens aroound this time of year. I have two ideas for new features I want to propose
- Highlight and apply template option in visual editor. This will allow for easy application of certain templates such as language tags from the visual editor
- Wikidata section links: For such situations the section header will have a language dropdown indicator. This could go to articles or other sections in foreign language wikipedias and potentially solve the bonnie and clyde problem. Depending on how it's implemented it could help with translation between wikipedias too by letting people track which subtopics are covered in articles in which languages, someone could use an expand-language template and specify a section from that language's page.

- @KnownPlacesEditor I suspect many, like me, have no idea what that acronym means. But you would be better off going directly to the article your are interested in and leaving a request on its talk page, plus a link to any reference you think might support your request.
- For obscure articles with very little traffic, you can draw another editor's attention to that page by following the WP:EDITREQUEST process. Hope this helps. Regards, Nick Moyes (talk) 21:53, 12 November 2023 (UTC)
- But note that most lists are not lists of everything meeting the description, but lists of Wikipedia articles about items meeting the description. Adding italics to citation when source incorrectly does NOT have italics
The scientific name (genus, species) of an animal should be in italics. I saw in a citation, it was not italics. I went to the source of the citation & saw it correctly had italics for the scientific name. So I changed it to italics. Did this for 2 citations. Found a 3rd citation that had the same error. Went to the source & found it incorrectly did NOT have the scientific name in italics. The quandary for me is, should I leave the Wiki citation as non-italics to match the incorrect source document, OR should I change it to italics?
Sunandshade (talk) 19:31, 12 November 2023 (UTC)
- Read WP:MOS. Funtrucker (talk) 19:54, 12 November 2023 (UTC)
- MOS says to use italics for scientific names of animals. So are you saying I should change the citation so the scientific name is in italics? Sunandshade (talk) 20:10, 12 November 2023 (UTC)

- MOS says to use italics for scientific names of animals. So are you saying I should change the citation so the scientific name is in italics? Sunandshade (talk) 20:10, 12 November 2023 (UTC)
- @Sunandshade: This is covered in Typographic conformity in the Manual of Style. Specifically:
Generally preserve bold and italics (see § Italics), but most other styling should be altered. Underlining, spac ing within words, colors, ALL CAPS, small caps, etc. should generally be normalized to plain text. If it clearly indicates emphasis, use italic emphasis ({{em}}) or, in an already-italic passage, boldface (with {{strong}}). For titles of books, articles, poems, and so forth, use italics or quotation marks following the guidance for titles. Italics can also be added to mark up non-English terms (with the {{lang}} template), for an organism's scientific name, and to indicate a words-as-words usage.
Formatting removed. —Tenryuu 🐲 ( 💬 • 📝 ) 19:56, 12 November 2023 (UTC)- Trying to understand how all this works. Your statement says "formatting removed". What does that mean? In your quote, it says to preserve italics. But when I read that whole section, it talks about using italics for emphasis & it seems to imply that when quoting, italics should be preserved. But this is a scientific name & I'm not asking about preserving italics but adding it. So I don't know if you are saying I should add italics or keep it as non-italics. Sunandshade (talk) 20:13, 12 November 2023 (UTC)
- Sunandshade, I've had a good look round, have found nothing that advises that a non-italicised taxon name in a source should be non-italic in the citation. Equally Wikipedia:Manual of Style/Organisms, which sets italicisation policy, does not comment on whether it extends to citations. It is indeed, at the moment, a quandary, with reasonable arguments on both sides :( --Tagishsimon (talk) 20:32, 12 November 2023 (UTC)
- That's just me making a disclaimer that the quoted text has been edited by me and in what manner.
The way I read that section is that whether a word or phrase should be italicised or not should not change from how its original formatting in the quote outlined in the MOS, even if the formatting is wrong by convention. —Tenryuu 🐲 ( 💬 • 📝 ) 21:24, 12 November 2023 (UTC)
- That is a fair reading, but it can be argued the thrust of that section of the MoS is about quotations; and it can be argued that the title of a citation is not a quotation, or, perhaps, is different from a quotation. It also starts with the word 'generally', indicating that there are exceptions to its advice on italicisation, although we do not get to learn what these exceptions are. --Tagishsimon (talk) 22:01, 12 November 2023 (UTC)
- Ultimately the MOS is a collection of guidelines, and while it's best to keep things consistent across all articles, that's not always possible, and that might need to discussed for a particular article if applicable. If it happens to be in the title of a work that is conventionally italicised by the encyclopedia's citation standards, I'd italicise it with everything else if each word was the same (i.e., none are italicisied), or if it's distinct from the rest by being the only word(s) italicised, I'd italicise everything but the original italicised words, which remain unitalicised in the citation. —Tenryuu 🐲 ( 💬 • 📝 ) 22:19, 12 November 2023 (UTC)
- Considering: It is indeed, at the moment, a quandary, with reasonable arguments on both sides. And: starts with the word 'generally', indicating that there are exceptions to its advice on italicisation. I plan to change the citation to the article so that the animal name is in italics. E.g., "Humans (Homo sapiens) working in snow". Thanks to everyone for your input. Sunandshade (talk) 22:47, 12 November 2023 (UTC)

Help editing & adding ref specifics
I am editing an existing Wikipedia article Saskatoon Hilltops. What is making this draft class article assess as start?
Totally inane question but I like to use the WikiProject Crime assessment table so I can find unassessed articles and assess them for the project, and this minor thing is bugging me. This rejected draft-class article shows up as start class for some reason despite not being classed as that and I have no idea why. It's not classed as start on the talk page. Me removing all the unnecessary tags did not fix it. It's been a few days and the other entries have updated so it's not just the site waiting to reload. Am I missing something really obvious? Why does this assess as start? PARAKANYAA (talk) 02:26, 13 November 2023 (UTC)
- Hello, PARAKANYAA. https://wp1.openzim.org is a website that is unaffiliated with Wikipedia and I suggest that you just ignore that website. A rating there is of no value on Wikipedia. Also, the draft was declined, not rejected. That is an important distinction. Cullen328 (talk) 02:47, 13 November 2023 (UTC)
- I didn't make the draft haha. Sorry, forgot about that terminology difference, my bad. I know it's unaffiliated but the WP1.0 bot has it stubbornly marked as start and I've never seen that before. Guess it's bugged out or something. PARAKANYAA (talk) 02:52, 13 November 2023 (UTC)
- (ec) I speculate, but it may be that the Wikipedia 1.0 Server design is flawed. There are a couple of date columns, which afaics are the talk page version dates which is it relying on for the importance and class information. For whatever reason it is relying on the 10 July 2023 talk page for the start rating. The pattern seems to be that it is selecting the date at which the first importance rating was made - this diff, this version; and the first date at which a class parameter was added - this diff, this version. It's then not noticing that that start class has been removed. idk why, but, as I say, smells like a design issue. --Tagishsimon (talk) 02:55, 13 November 2023 (UTC)

Peening: History
Hi, I want to add some paragraphs to the History section of the Peening article Peening to improve this section and also to give some information about the use of peening to improve metal strength. Both these issues are discussed on the Peening Talk page.Talk:Peening. I have prepared the text in my sandbox but would like to have it reviewed before inserting it onto the live page. How can I move it to the draft review page? Thanks CSK45Kays (talk) 15:19, 11 November 2023 (UTC)
- Hello, CSK45Kays, and welcome to the Teahouse. The Draft (WP:AFC) mechanism is only for new articles, so cannot be used here.
- I suggest either:
- Be Bold, and copy your new text into the article, and see if anybody disagrees, or
- Post your proposed text on Talk:Peening and see if anybody disagrees. If not, you can copy it into the article.
- You could also post at WT:WikiProject Metalworking, linking to the Talk page or you sandbox, though that project says that it is semi-active, so you might not get any reply. ColinFine (talk) 15:51, 11 November 2023 (UTC)

Hi. For new accounts on enwiki, by default, do they get notification after successfully mentioning/pinging other editor? I am not sure about English Wikipedia, but on all the other projects, you have to turn this on from the preferences. —usernamekiran (talk) 12:07, 13 November 2023 (UTC)
- Hello, usernamekiran, and welcome to the Teahouse and to English Wikipedia. I'm not quite sure what you're asking. When somebody pings me, I get a notification, but when I ping somebody else, I do not get a notification (though I hope that they do!). Does that answer your question? ColinFine (talk) 12:59, 13 November 2023 (UTC)
- @ColinFine: Hi. yes, thats what I was trying to ask, thank you for your response/sharing your experience. In case you are wondering, under Special:Preferences, in "notifications" section, you get two options: one to get notification on successful ping, and other for failed pings. I might have turned these on years ago which I cant recall now. A couple of years later, I had similar issue on other wikimedia project, so I made changes to global configurations - Special:GlobalPreferences#mw-prefsection-echo. Yesterday, I had same issue on wikitech, which is mediawiki project, but out of scope of WP:SUL, and global preferences. I was aware about wikitech, but that gave me the doubt regarding enwiki's default settings as I couldnt recall turning them on. Thanks again for your response. —usernamekiran (talk) 15:20, 13 November 2023 (UTC)

Can anyone tell why my last article Ladli Behna Yojana declined Dhrubajit61 (talk) 18:01, 13 November 2023 (UTC)

Best way to find sources?
After successfully creating an article for the first time just under a week ago, I have decided to move on to another article. Since the first page was related to a group of youtubers, I decided to do another youtuber, and eventually decided on Aphmau. But, before creating a draft (which I haven't done yet) I decided to find some sources. So, like the last time, I decided to go to Google and look for articles. The problem is that YouTubers get alot of junk articles written about them. "Best Youtubers", "This YouTuber released some merch" stuff like that, or articles from unreliable sources. I experienced this with the pervious article, but since Aphmau is way more popular than the subject of my last article (18 mil compared to 10 mil subscribers), I'm finding it even harder to find any reliable, independent articles with significant coverage of the source through all this junk. It took a very long time of sifting through many pages of google, using multiple different search terms to find what I needed last time, and I don't have the time to spend twice as long this time. So I wanted to ask if there is a better way.
Thanks, AKFkrewfamKF1 (talk) 17:21, 13 November 2023 (UTC)
- Maybe I should have chosen someone less popular. AKFkrewfamKF1 (talk) 17:25, 13 November 2023 (UTC)

"conquering" isn't a neutral word in State of Palestine
I noticed recent subtle POV pushing edits in that article. One of them is phrasing the 1967 war or Naksa as something as "conquering" Gaza.[7] But can we also call the USA as conquering Iraq despite its illegal controversial nature? I don't think the word, "conquering" Gaza strip is appropriate given its controversial illegality. It's not like the international community today regards palestine Gaza strip to be legally absorbed into israel without dispute. However am also aware the topic attracts those who strongly pick a side and I don't wish to argue with persistent editors, but was I right to suggest that "conquering" is an inappropriate word to call what is deemed an illegal war?[8] Yet when I try to mention that it should be reworded in a more balanced manner and not use puffery, my suggestion to improve the article was reverted by an editor, persistent on that page, who says I am using that Talk as a forum and breaking some arbitration rules. So what is my best course of action here to address this if I can't even discuss it on the article's talk page? 49.186.236.32 (talk) 18:01, 13 November 2023 (UTC)
- Welcome to the Teahouse! I see you posted your concern in Talk:State of Palestine, which is the best place to discuss the content of the article. I see your first attempt to raise the concern on the talk page was reverted by another editor. I don't know why you reverted your second attempt to post here. GoingBatty (talk) 18:08, 13 November 2023 (UTC)
- The other editor had claimed I was using the talk page as FORUM and also breaking arbitration rules by posting my suggestion there and why they revert. They point out WP:ARBECR [9], which I am not too familiar with that term. But I skim read the rule and it said something about only extended confirmed editors can edit there. Considering I am not an extended confirmed editor, I assume that's their reason why I am not allowed to raise this issue on talk there. So had to revert my suggestion to improve that page. But as a non-extended confirmed editor, am I actually allowed to edit the Talk page or not? I like to ask this too here as an unsure about that.49.186.236.32 (talk) 18:22, 13 November 2023 (UTC)
- WP:ARBECR states:
Non-extended-confirmed editors may use the "Talk:" namespace only to make edit requests related to articles within the topic area, provided they are not disruptive.
Unfortunately, unless you have a specific Edit request you can't edit the talk page of articles with extended confirmed restrictions. Best wishes Polyamorph (talk) 18:27, 13 November 2023 (UTC)- Thanks for the reply but am a bit confused. My edit request wasn't disruptive but a suggestion to improve the article. - Yes, you can make an edit request. But it has to be specific to the exact change you want made in the article, following the instructions at WP:EDITREQ and using the {{editrequest}} template. You can use the edit request wizard to simplify the process: Wikipedia:Edit Request Wizard. Best wishes Polyamorph (talk) 18:56, 13 November 2023 (UTC)
- I don't think this is a desired outcome of ARBECR. Not all "edit requests"—suggestions for article improvement—have to be templated WP:EDITREQs. Requiring them to all be the latter means we'll get more controversial requests, which is not the intended use of an EDITREQ. If there's a widespread view that ARBECR prevents regular talk page discussion participation from IPs, it's news to me, and I think we'd need to bring it up for ArbCom confirmation. Firefangledfeathers (talk / contribs) 19:01, 13 November 2023 (UTC)
- I think it depends, if an edit request is made without the template and it seems reasonable, it would likely be discussed but if there is "forumy" stuff attached to it, as in this case, or no sourcing, then probably not. Selfstudier (talk) 19:10, 13 November 2023 (UTC)
- "Likely to be discussed" is important, but not relevant to whether it's an ARBECR violation. If it's forumy to the point of disruption, then that fails the ARBECR criteria. I don't think this IPs post took it that far. Firefangledfeathers (talk / contribs) 19:12, 13 November 2023 (UTC)
- WP:ARBECR was updated on 11 Nov stating non-EC users can only make edit requests. I guess its possible to make an edit request without using the template, if it is sufficiently precise. I suggested the template as that's unambiguously permitted according to ARBECR.Polyamorph (talk) 19:14, 13 November 2023 (UTC)

GA / FA of a cinematographer
I would like to know if there is any GA or FA about a cinematographer. Also, is there a way to search for GA/FA articles from a particular category? TIA <3 Jeraxmoira (talk) 20:58, 12 November 2023 (UTC)
- Although there are always issues with using the WP category tree, petscan offers a means of answering the question by looking for articles that are in category:good articles and some other category, such as cinematographers, e.g. https://petscan.wmflabs.org/?psid=26392890 --Tagishsimon (talk) 21:31, 12 November 2023 (UTC)
- @Jeraxmoira Welcome to the Teahouse. An alternative route in is by going to WP:WikiProject Film, you will find hidden in its depth a table of 'Article Assessments', listing all topics that fall under that group, both by quality and 'importance' to the project. See it here. Click the number in the appropriate row to find a link to a list of GA and list of FA articles tagged by that Project. I hope that helps. Hint: Look at the talk page of any article that interests you to see which WikiProjects that article is claimed by (often more than one). I think every project has a similar table, which is useful for finding not only the highest quality articles, but also the shortest, the most important, and the most in need of easy improvement. Hope this helps, though I think Tagishsimon's answer addresses your question more directly. Regards, Nick Moyes (talk) 21:31, 12 November 2023 (UTC)
- Thank you so much Tagishsimon and Nick Moyes. I was not aware of petscan and WP1.0 before. This was very helpful <3 Jeraxmoira (talk) 19:48, 13 November 2023 (UTC)
Introducing a mathematician
Hi.
I have written a Wikipedia page for a Mathematician and I wrote all facts about him by citing some references. I do not intend to say that he is brilliant or notable . I just want to introduce him to young Mathematician. But the editors declined the page and said that you should provide some references to show that he is notable and brilliant...
But I just want to introduce him...like the other information that people get from Wikipedia!
What can I do now? Because the page is well-written and all the information are correct with citing the references Drmohammadimath (talk) 14:06, 13 November 2023 (UTC)
- Hello, Drmohammadimath, and welcome to the Teahouse.
- I'm afraid that "introducing" somebody is not part of the purpose of Wikipedia - indeed, you might even say that it is a kind of promotion, which is not allowed on Wikipedia.
- A Wikipedia article summarises what other people, unconnected to the subject have chosen to publish about the subject - nothing more. All of your references in Draft:Stefano De Marchi are to works by de Marchi, but they are irrelevant. Wikipedia requires substantial works about de Marchi, not written or published by himself, or his colleagues, or his institutions.
- If you can find at least three sources about him which meet all the requirement5s of the golden rule, then it may be possible to write a Wikipedia article about him. Otherwise, you should give up, and put your energies somewhere else. We have more than six million articles, most of them crying out for people to improve them. ColinFine (talk) 14:24, 13 November 2023 (UTC)
- Drmohammadimath, please note that there's no requirement for someone to be brilliant to qualify as an article subject. We have articles about people who are the opposite of brilliant but still notable. They just need to meet the criteria set out at WP:GNG, summarised at WP:GOLDENRULE (WP:NPROF might be relevant here too). Cordless Larry (talk) 18:24, 13 November 2023 (UTC)
- Drmohammadimath, the English of the draft and the English of your question above seem remarkably different. It's as if they were written by two different people. Can you explain this contrast? -- Hoary (talk) 21:08, 13 November 2023 (UTC)

- The image has now been deleted as a copyvio, and a long history of previous AfC rejections has been restored to the draft. If you do not find better sources, the article will not be created. And you are at substantial risk of the draft being rejected outright, with no possibility of resubmitting it. WP people only have so much patience. --Tagishsimon (talk) 22:57, 12 November 2023 (UTC)

Is there a place where editors look for articles with little or no references?
I've just added a "More citations needed" template to Richard Morrison (film titles designer), the first time I've added a template like that, as I suspect he's one of many people I've stumbled across on IMDB over the years, who adds all their own credits, whether they're credited on-screen on not.
He might be credited in all 249 productions on his profile, but I doubt it.
I noticed his Wikipedia article when I was searching to see whether he worked for the titles company listed directly below him, and it seems like he did, as there's roughly 10 more films where him and that company are credited together.
The only reference on the article is an interview with him from 2008.
While reading the template I noticed it has been added to 368,000 articles, not to mention the similar templates which have also been added to articles, and wondered if there's a place where those 368,000+ articles are listed once the template has been added. Danstarr69 (talk) 00:09, 14 November 2023 (UTC)
- Yes: Category:All articles needing additional references. --Tagishsimon (talk) 00:14, 14 November 2023 (UTC)
- Presuming you can see the hidden categories at the foot of the article, you will be able to see the categories into which articles are placed when templates are applied. I cannot remeber whether you have to set something in preferences to be able to see hidden categories; maybe someone can throw some light on that. --Tagishsimon (talk) 00:17, 14 November 2023 (UTC)
- Tagishsimon I couldn't see the hidden categories.
- However I've just had a look through the "Category:All articles needing additional references" by clicking on a letter, and searching backwards, as there seems to be no search filter, not even in the URL, to see if there were any articles listed there related to the City of Bradford, and to my surprise, I saw Bradford listed there, along with some other articles which are also well-referenced, which don't even contain the template...
- ...at the top of the article at least.
- However I've now just enabled hidden categories, and it's listed at the bottom of the Bradford article, along with many more unneeded categories, so I think I'll be removing a lot of these soon.
- How is it possible for an article to contain this hidden category at the bottom, when it doesn't contain the template message at the top? You would have thought they were linked. Danstarr69 (talk) 01:29, 14 November 2023 (UTC)

First time adding to an article, getting a citation error message
Hi guys, I've only made 3-4 minor edits to articles and just made my first big edit (for me haha). I added an awards section on Neil Newbon's page for his new Golden Joystick award. When I added the reference to the article I used and published the changes, I got this error at the top: Cite error: There are <ref>
tags on this page without content in them
I tried to edit the reference using one of the resources in the Wiki help page to generate sources next but the error is still there. Can anyone point me in the right direction so I can fix it and know how to properly add it next time please? Also if there are any suggestions for easy to use generators for citations let me know, I'm currently using a JavaScript bookmarklet. Haris00911 (talk) 03:36, 14 November 2023 (UTC)
- Fixed – it looks like an empty reference accidentally got added as the very first thing on the page. That would be tricky to find for sure, (probably impossible, actually, if you're using the Visual Editor, which hides the reference code). The reference you did intend to add works correctly – thank you for your contribution! Tollens (talk) 03:42, 14 November 2023 (UTC)

- Reliable sources. AllMusic assures us the album exists, but it does not assure notbility. (Although right now I get an error 404.) The book is an Xlibris US publication, which is to say, it is a self-published book and so is not a WP:RS. What does "There was this 'album voild' between the Runaway album and what would become the Little Town Flirt album.[2] The Album fixed this problem in England, but not in America.[2] An opportunity was missed, but fans were still buyer of singles" mean? Why is wikipedia saying "An opportunity was missed". Is this just cut & paste from the self-published book? The text in the article is VERY FAR AWAY from neutral tone. If you do not see that this sort of text is inappropriate for an encyclopedia article than that seems to be a big problem. --Tagishsimon (talk) 00:03, 14 November 2023 (UTC)
- The drafts about albums that you have submitted and have had accepted are of better quality and referencing compared to this one, although you have made post-criticism edits to resolve the non-encyclopaedic tone. - What's also missing from the Hats Off to Del Shannon draft (in its current state) is any indication that this album is Notable (in the Wikipedia sense). Confirmation of its existence, content, release dates etc. are useful details to have in an article (and have been well presented), but are not sufficient on their own to justify there being an article. What would do that is summaries of several pieces (published in reliable sources, such as Melody Maker, to take a random example), by various established music critics and historians talking about the album's artistic qualities, importance in Shannon's career, etc.
- Brian C. Young, whose book you have cited, might be considered an established authority, since he has written material about Shannon for music publisher Bear Family Records (and perhaps other publishers?), but a self-published book is pushing the envelope, and in any case facts from it must be clearly cited to it and summarised in Neutral terms (see WP:NPOV) – anything judgemental (positive or negative) would be best confined to short quotations that are explicitly identified (e.g. by writing '. . . in his book Runaway: The Del Shannon Story (The Caps are not justified, they don't appear on the book), biographer Brian C. Young stated of the album "Xxxxx" and "Yyyyy".'). Hope this helps. {The poster formerly known as 87.81.230.195} 94.2.5.208 (talk) 04:03, 14 November 2023 (UTC)
How to fight vandalism?
What are some ways I could help in the fight against vandalism? I love Wikipedia so much, and really want to help clean it up and fight vandalism.

Draft:Lanka Bandaranayake Gabriel2954 (talk) 09:55, 14 November 2023 (UTC)
- Gabriel2954: as indicated by all seven of the "decline" notices, you need to find and cite several reliable independent published sources with extensive discussion of Bandaranayake. (If you believe that the article already cites such sources, please list the best three of them here.) Maproom (talk) 10:49, 14 November 2023 (UTC)

- Let's look at a sample of Draft:Kixx Oil, 익명의 4인. "[A]n engine oil brand focused on passenger cars, commercial vehicles and motorcycles": if "focused on" means "marketed for", then write "marketed for". If it doesn't, what does it mean? "[R]epositioned itself as a global lubricant brand encompassing automotive and industrial lubricant solutions": if "encompassing automotive and industrial lubricant solutions" means "including automotive and industrial lubricants", then write this; if it doesn't, what does it mean? What would a non-global lubricant brand be? Does "repositioned itself as" mean "became"? All of this is in a turgid kind of corporate-PR-speak; but in Wikipedia we don't aim to impress; we aim to inform. -- Hoary (talk) 10:58, 14 November 2023 (UTC)
review
is there a way to check if a page has been patrolled/reviewed? does it show that information anywhere on the page? i have made pages before, and i am notified when they are, but i don't know if there is a way to tell other than being notified. and that is only for pages you make, what about other people's new pages? Iljhgtn (talk) 20:34, 13 November 2023 (UTC)
- I think that more recently, Articles receive a note in their code, not visible on the actual page, that shows this, but it probably isn't present on older articles.
- The answer may well lie somewhere in Wikipedia:New pages patrol; perhaps someone involved in the process will point to it. {The poster formerly known as 87.81.230.195} 94.2.5.208 (talk) 21:30, 13 November 2023 (UTC)

Autism is a serious concept and needs all the social awareness as needed, But Wikipedia is declining the post.

- Hi, your draft cites zero sources. The decline is not because Wikipedia volunteer editors think autism is a not serious concept, but the draft lacks sources to back up the claims made in the draft. Wikipedia is not the place to promote new organization. Please see the advice in WP:42. Ca talk to me! 12:53, 14 November 2023 (UTC)
- Hello CA,
- Couldn't find any information on prominent organization in this space [Autism], Hence started adding the organizations list.
- This is the first one amongst. Drkoti (talk) 12:56, 14 November 2023 (UTC)
- @Drkoti There are articles like Autism Speaks and a whole category of US organisations listed at Category:Autism-related organizations in the United States. Note how the first article I linked includes extensive sources. You need to read this help page and this essay as you try to bring your draft up to our standards. Mike Turnbull (talk) 13:03, 14 November 2023 (UTC)
- Hi, I think it is great that you want to expand the coverage on autism. however, you need to cite reliable sources for information you add to articles to make sure they are verifiable. i.e. readers and editors can check if the information comes from a reliable source. blank edit summary warning when editing section
The option to provide a warning if the edit summary is blank (to the extent editors choose this option) has the desirable feature of encouraging editors to describe the change. I suggest that it should apply even when doing a section edit, i.e. if you're editing a section and you fail to add text beyond the name of the section that's included by default, you should still get a warning.
IMO, a good edit summary is a matter of courtesy to the rest of the editor community. Where should I be posting this proposal? Fabrickator (talk) 14:26, 14 November 2023 (UTC)
- @Fabrickator I've just tested this in my sandbox and (as I recollected was the case) a section edit also refuses to save unless I provide an edit summary, since I've got the relevant option selected at Special:Preferences#mw-prefsection-editing. The section's name between / marks doesn't count as a summary as far as the software is concerned. Mike Turnbull (talk) 14:38, 14 November 2023 (UTC)

- @Shanshansan: Welcome to the Teahouse! If you haven't done so already, please read WP:NALBUMS. Only proceed to create an article if you have multiple independent reliable sources that demonstrate the album meets Wikipedia's notability criteria for albums. Note that the sources do not have to be online and do not have to be in English. GoingBatty (talk) 16:38, 14 November 2023 (UTC)

Getting started
Hi! Brand new here and the coding is literally like a different language to me. I'm currently writing my postgrad thesis about an Irish musical, and when I went to look it up, it's not here. References are made to it in a couple of places, but not an article in its own right, which I think it should be. But finding the process so confusing. Is there any way I can just send the info to someone more experienced and they can just put it up? MaryElleOrr (talk) 14:44, 14 November 2023 (UTC)
- MaryElleOrr Hello and welcome to the Teahouse. You could make a request at Requested Articles, but is is backlogged to the point of uselessness- if anyone sees your request at all, it could be some time before it is acted on, if ever. The best way to see an article created is to do it yourself- though as you seem to be aware it is challenging. If you're interested in taking the time to learn, the new user tutorial and Article Wizard are helpful. 331dot (talk) 14:49, 14 November 2023 (UTC)
- I didn't realize you had already attempted to write a draft(Draft:Caisleáin Óir)- as a new user you didn't do too bad from a technical standpoint. I would note that language like "began its journey" is to be frank promotional fluff that should be toned down; text should be very dry and matter-of-fact. 331dot (talk) 14:53, 14 November 2023 (UTC)
- I only used "began its journey" because I got it off their website. I find the whole thing quite prohibitive. MaryElleOrr (talk) 15:50, 14 November 2023 (UTC)
- (So you did – you even copied the spelling mistake "it's".) Yes, creating a new article is difficult. I wouldn't recommend it to anyone without considerable experience of editing, say 300 surviving edits to existing articles. Maproom (talk) 16:09, 14 November 2023 (UTC)
- Hello, MaryElleOrr, and welcome to the Teahouse and to Wikipedia. There is no doubt that, while Wikipedia is the encyclopaedia that anybody can edit, this does not mean that it is easy to learn - and the most challenging bits are not technical questions, but the rules on notability and reliable sources.
- I liken it to playing an instrument - if you've never played a violin before, and you pick one up, you wouldn't expect to be able to give a recital, or even busk on the street successfully, until you'd learnt how to play it.
- Changing metaphors, if you liken writing an article to building a house, the bits you can see are not the only work to do, or even the most crucial. If you don't survey your site, or check local building regulations, first, then whatever you build is going to fall down. The parallel for that in Wikipedia world is that if you do not find adequate sources that are reliably published, independent of the subject, and contain significant coverage of the subject first, then it is possible that no article can be written, and if one can, it is likely that you will go about it BACKWARDS and make a difficult task even harder.
- Wikipedia is not interested in what the subject of an article says or wants to say about themselves, or what their associates say about them. Wikipedia is only interested in what people who have no connection with the subject, and who have not been prompted or fed information on behalf of the subject, have chosen to publish about the subject in reliable sources. So little or nothing from their website is relevant to a Wikipedia article about them - maybe a few uncontroversial facts like dates and places.
- My advice, as it always is to new editors, is to put aside the idea of writing a new article ("giving a recital") completely for a few weeks or months, while you learn how Wikipedia works by making improvements to some of our six million existing articles - starting with small things like copy editing, and moving up to finding and adding suitable sources. Once you can do that successfully, you will be ready to read your first article and try creating one.
- If you go to the community portal you will find some suggested tasks. ColinFine (talk) 16:12, 14 November 2023 (UTC)
- @MaryElleOrr: Welcome to Wikipedia:Teahouse/Questions/Archive 1206. Aside from what other editors have said, I'm going to caution you from lifting text wholesale from other sites, as more often than not there's a copyright present, and to put it here would contravene Wikipedia's copyright violations policy, which can potentially have legal ramifications for the site. —Tenryuu 🐲 ( 💬 • 📝 ) 17:55, 14 November 2023 (UTC)
- I only used "began its journey" because I got it off their website. I find the whole thing quite prohibitive. MaryElleOrr (talk) 15:50, 14 November 2023 (UTC)
how to reply to a Teahouse topic
Newbie here. I've asked a few questions in Teahouse & have had useful replies. I have made replies on those replies. But now, I can't figure out how do make a reply to a Teahouse topic. Isn't there a "reply" button or something? Maybe I'm missing it, or maybe I got in some weird mode where it doesn't show. My username shows at the top so I assume I'm logged in. I did log into using my cell phone for the 1st time & hope that didn't change things. I then logged out on my cell phone but that didn't seem to help. Frustrated I did it yesterday but today it escapes me. I would appreciate any answers, but remember, if you are not completely clear, then I can't ask follow up questions until I get this resolved. Thanks. Sunandshade (talk) 18:16, 14 November 2023 (UTC)
- Sunandshade the reply button is called Reply tool. Sometimes, if you haven't put a correctly-formatted signature after the message, there will be no reply button after the comment. You can always go into source/visual editor and add the reply yourself; to indent, put a colon (

New article rejected
Hello, I am new on creating articles and I suggested the creation of one for "cybersecurity" and got rejected. The reason was that it already exists under another article: "Thank you for your submission, but the subject of this article already exists in Wikipedia. You can find it and improve it at Computer security instead."
The article I suggested explains that difference between computer security and cybersecurity, you can see the draft here: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Draft:Cybersecurity
What would you suggest for improving my draft in order to be accepted as a new article? Pcoronaf (talk) 17:53, 14 November 2023 (UTC)
- @Pcoronaf: Welcome to the Teahouse! I suggest starting a conversation at Talk:Computer security to see if others share your opinion that the topics are worthy of separate articles. GoingBatty (talk) 17:55, 14 November 2023 (UTC)

Problem creating new draft page with Article Wizard
Hi, and 'Help!' - For 9 years we have run a succesful Educational Project for students at LIUC, Italy. There is a current course page and dashboard at: https://outreachdashboard.wmflabs.org/courses/LIUC_-_Universit%C3%A0_Cattaneo/Digital_Technology_(Autumn_2023)/home. Two student teams have had an issue creating new draft pages using Article Wizard. The draft pages are created by Article Wizard, but:
- do not appear under their Username contributions
- do not contain the draft markup for the draft banner (Articles for creation (AfC) submission) and for the references footer sections
An example is at: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Draft:Padiglione_Asplund
Other teams have used the same tool to succesfully create 'normal' draft pages containing both the above elements. Can anyone advise on why two different formats for new draft pages are being created by the same Article Wizard tool, and how we can fix this? Many thanks. Limelightangel (talk) 21:22, 14 November 2023 (UTC)
- Limelightangel: Draft:Padiglione Asplund was created, with just one word of content, by LIUC7michelle05, who blanked it four minutes later. This is confirmed in LIUC7michelle05's "User contributions". Maproom (talk) 21:38, 14 November 2023 (UTC)

- It's not clear that the award you're talking about confers notability; the awarder is a local charity in Ontario. Nor is it clear that WP:GNG is met for the subject of the article. Certainly the description you have given of the subject does not amount to notability. I don't think you have satisfied WP notability criteria. --Tagishsimon (talk) 17:42, 14 November 2023 (UTC)
- You're already receiving useful advice from the AFC volunteers reviewing your submission, please continue working with them and following their advice. Not every person or subject can qualify for a Wikipedia article - our basic inclusion standard is the general notability guideline, and the reviewers are trying to suggest what sorts of sources you need to find to demonstrate that this person meets the guideline. If you think that you have provided suitable sources, you could try discussing them individually on the draft's talk page, it may help to illustrate your point and/or it might draw better advice from the reviewers. Please do not just repeatedly resubmit your draft without making any changes, it will just be declined again. Thank you. Ivanvector (Talk/Edits) 17:53, 14 November 2023 (UTC)
- Hello, IP user. "Notable" in the special way that Wikipedia uses it, is not about being famous, popular, influential, worthy, or deserving (though some of these often go with it). It is almost entirely about whether or not there is enough wholly independent material about them, reliably published, to base an article on - remembering that Wikipedia is not interested in what the subject of an article says or wants to say about themselves, or what their associates say about them. Wikipedia is only interested in what people who have no connection with the subject, and who have not been prompted or fed information on behalf of the subject, have chosen to publish about the subject in reliable sources. Season 11 The Walking Dead
I wound like to have this problem checked into, I was in your section on (The Walking Dead (season 11) and I was viewing the episodes and was able to view the first 8 episodes then when I tried to view the 9th episode and the rest of the episodes I was unable to view them, the ones that I was able to view the names turned blue and the rest of the episodes names are in black, I thought it was my computer so I tried the web site on another computer and the same thing happened, I hope you can fix this and please let me know thru my e-mail address. I really want to be able to view the rest of those episodes.

This might be because somebody tried but concluded that suitable sources do not exist to satisfy the requirements of notability for those episodes (in which case, nobody should spend any time trying) or it might be just that nobody has been sufficiently interested to write them.
- If you are interested, you are welcome to try and write them youself; however, I would warn that writing a new article is a very challenging task for new editors, and I would advise you not to try until you have been actively editing for at least a few weeks, and have learnt about verifiability and referencing. Then, when you feel you're ready, you can read your first article. ColinFine (talk) 22:02, 14 November 2023 (UTC)
Different dates of birth
I'm working on Jared Sidney Torrance's article which has very few citations. It lists his DOB as August 3, 1853 with no citation. I've found some sources for 1853 and others for 1852. A monument erected by the Torrance Historical Society Museum states 1852 - 1921 but his tombstone says 1853. Since there are reputable sources for both dates, what would be the best way to indicate this? Any biographical articles with similarly differing DOBs I could refer to and copy the format? Rourensu (talk) 20:08, 14 November 2023 (UTC)
- @Rourensu See Balak Singh and WP:THISORTHAT. I wouldn't include the dates in an infobox (if you decide to add one, list it as disputed), but rather add a brief mention of the conflict under Southern California. Sincerely, Novo Tape (She/Her)My Talk Page 21:30, 14 November 2023 (UTC)

How do I get an ANI thread closed
I've had an ANI thread open about me for almost four weeks. It seems for the most part to be dead but for some reason is still open. Is there a reason why it is still open? Is it because consensus has not yet been reached? Immanuelle ❤️💚💙 (talk to the cutest Wikipedian) 23:21, 14 November 2023 (UTC)
- I think that is the reason. I'll propose they close it; see what happens. --Tagishsimon (talk) 23:41, 14 November 2023 (UTC)
when editing, references are different
For the page for Prolagus, when I use the visual editor, the references are different from the original page. Or maybe they are in a different order, it's hard to tell. If you take a look, in the original page, the 1st Reference starts with Ge. When editing it starts with Hoffman. Why is this? I tried editing in source mode & it's hard for me to read, but I think in this case, the References are the same as the original page. Sunandshade (talk) 10:45, 14 November 2023 (UTC)
- Sunandshade, the infobox counts as the first content of the article. The reference in the infobox starts "Ge", and is listed as ref. 1. The first reference in the body of the article starts "Hoffman" and is listed as ref. 3. Ref. 2, starting "The Paleobiology Database", is harder to explain. Maproom (talk) 10:56, 14 November 2023 (UTC)
- I think ref 2 is because it's in the Prolagus#Notes, which is in the infobox. Gråbergs Gråa Sång (talk) 11:04, 14 November 2023 (UTC)
- Yes, this is the reason - visual editor doesn't handle the order of notes well. You get a similar problem if you use sfn footnotes as well as the normal ref type: only the ref ones are properly counted. -- asilvering (talk) 13:26, 14 November 2023 (UTC)
- I think ref 2 is because it's in the Prolagus#Notes, which is in the infobox. Gråbergs Gråa Sång (talk) 11:04, 14 November 2023 (UTC)
- Thanks for all the info. Looks like I'll have to use the source editor but it's very difficult to find the citation in the source editor. What I did was have one window open with the original article. Then opened another for editing. Then I'd note the citation I wanted to change & used the author's name to search in the source editor. Tedious. Is there a better way? Sunandshade (talk) 18:57, 14 November 2023 (UTC)
- If you're using the 2017 source editor wiki syntax should be highlighted. Otherwise you can try using WikEd, which is an alternative if you don't like using said 2017 source editor. It also comes with a feature to hide references in blocks, though it's been a long time since I've used it, so I can't tell you exactly how it's done. —Tenryuu 🐲 ( 💬 • 📝 ) 19:12, 14 November 2023 (UTC)
- @Sunandshade you can enable the article preview in source editor, which saves you the two-windows problem, but the editing process is essentially the same. -- asilvering (talk) 19:42, 14 November 2023 (UTC)
- Under preferences; editing, I enabled the 2017 editor & saw the vertical bar I was looking for. But turns out then you don't see the Preview button. I then unchecked the 2017 editor option & I assume I have some other editor, tho don't know which one. But then I could still see the vertical bar (which I couldn't see before). So I have no idea why I can sometimes see it & other times not.
- When "using the 217 source editor wiki syntax should be highlighted." Don't know what this means. I used the 2017 editor & didn't see any hilites. I've looked at WikEd but it's quite involved to instal/use it & I have much to learn about Wiki right now so I'll do that later. Sunandshade (talk) 20:50, 14 November 2023 (UTC)

Not highlights in the conventional sense of colour being applied to text background, but rather elements being rendered in different colours. For example HTML tags like

How can I split the cast into 3 separate lists?
I've added all the credited cast to Yanks.
First the "main" cast are listed, then the "American" cast are listed, and then the "British" cast are listed.
So I'm trying to separate them into columns side by side, or if that looks weird, then on top of each other, as right now 2 of the American cast appear just above the British cast.
I've just attempted to separate them by copying the info on the column which was already there, to make 3 columns, however you couldn't really tell where the columns ended and started on the right hand side. Danstarr69 (talk) 03:03, 15 November 2023 (UTC)
- @Danstarr69: Welcome to the Teahouse! I changed the columns to use {{col begin}}, {{col break}}, and {{col end}}. How the columns will appear to a user will depend on their browser width, font size, and other factors. Feel free to revert my edit if it's not to your liking. You may want to use a table instead. Newbie, confused about recent contribution
Hey Wikipedians--- wanted to reach out and share an experience I recently had while working on the Jasper AI Wikipedia page. I'm seeking guidance and insights on how to navigate this situation
Some time ago I dedicated an amount of time and effort to create a Wikipedia page, for Jasper AI. Throughout the process my focus was on adhering to Wikipedias citation standards and ensuring the subjects notability. (See my talk page)
Initially my submission was moved to the draft space due to concerns about citations despite my efforts in citing sources. However an administrator later approved the article moving it into the space. (The editor who flagged it initally has changed their reasoning a few times. (No disrespect to them)
Recently the same editor who initially moved the article to draft space has raised concerns regarding its notability. Flagged it for deletion. This was a bit disheartening for me since I invested time and effort into acquiring citations and creating a page that I believed met all the necessary guidelines.
My main concern lies in the inconsistency of the process. Feeling a bit perplexed, and disheartened. While I fully understand and respect Wikipedias commitment to maintaining standards I am seeking clarity, on how best to ensure that my work aligns with these standards without feeling like its a shifting goalpost.
I know I am a noob, but what perplexes me is that by the interpretation of the editors view on WP guidelines, a great portion of pages should be deleted. I want to help and add value here.
I am hoping to receiving feedback. I am willing to make any necessary changes to the Jasper AI page. My intention is to contribute to the Wikipedia community so any advice or assistance, in resolving this matter would be greatly appreciated.
Please forgive me if I am an idiot for doing things wrong, I really want to help and I understand spending time contributing doesnt matter If I am making mistakes.
**PS, I figured established pages would be a good reference for creating pages, but it seems that even established pages aren't great sources**

- Different users take different views. (Whether or not either of the involved users here is an admin is neither here nor there; they are not doing admin tasks). Likely one looked at the number of references & thought they looked convincing. The other looked in depth at each reference and thought they were not good. The deletion discussion provides all of the information required on the reason for the deletion nomination. It cites the relevant WP policies, and analysis the references in great depth. I would, if I were you, be looking for additional WP:RS for the article, because right now a compelling case for its deletion is being made. --Tagishsimon (talk) 02:23, 15 November 2023 (UTC)
- Thanks for the update. Yes I would be a fool to contribute time, and be doing things wrong. Thank you. Comintell (talk) 02:26, 15 November 2023 (UTC)
- Hello, @Comintell:, and thank you for your efforts. And thank you for taking Wikipedia's standards seriously (they are here for a reason, after all). We all know the pain and frustration of putting in the time to create an article, only to have it deleted; I feel for you. One of the hardest lessons I found was before even starting to write the article, to assess whether the available sources were enough to satisfy the ""golden rule": is there enough in-depth coverage in reliable, independent sources to show that the subject is "notable" (in Wikipedia's sense of the term). It isn't about how well you wrote the article, or documented the sources - it isn't about anything you did, it is about the subject. All you can do is like Tagishsimon says, search for some more sources that meet those criteria and bring them to the attention of the deletion discussion. If they are good, the article will stay. If not, we hope you will stick around and continue to contribute to Wikipedia because we need more good editors like you!--Gronk Oz (talk) 03:10, 15 November 2023 (UTC)

- I am the "editor" being referred to. The advice provided by other editors above is good advice. I will emphasize what was said above as well. I understand that can be difficult to have a page you created wind up at a deletion discussion. I have been in the same situation and from experience it is best to review the policies and guidelines and make your argument in the deletion discussion. I would add that you should transfer your talk page comments from Talk:Jasper AI that you placed under the heading "Proof of Notability: Additional reading tab" and move that to the deletion discussion page. I know we started out discussing there, but it would be best to make the arguments in the deletion discussion so that other editors can evaluate and we can come to a WP:CONSENSUS. Having everything in one location is better so that no one has to jump to different pages. --CNMall41 (talk) 04:34, 15 November 2023 (UTC)
- Thank you @CNMall41 Comintell (talk) 04:37, 15 November 2023 (UTC)
- No problem. Sorry we are at this point as I know it sucks. For help, you can refer to WP:ORGCRIT for the sourcing needed to show notability. You can also assess each one using WP:SIRS to refute any other references you feel I got wrong in my assessment. Cheers! --CNMall41 (talk) 04:47, 15 November 2023 (UTC)

- Hi @Da drago stoone. What you are describing is promotion, and strictly prohibited on Wikipedia. If your friend get's documented and written about in multiple secondary sources like magazine articles, books, TV shows, newspapers - then someone will eventually write an article about him. But Wikipedia is not to be used to write biographies of random people who do not meet our special definition of 'notable'. Qcne (talk) 19:44, 14 November 2023 (UTC)

- The point is that if you (posting here) and 'your friend' really do have the same name, then most people might conclude that 'your friend' is really you, and you are trying to smuggle autobiography into Wikipedia which, though not outright forbidden, is both heavily frowned upon and extremely difficult to do while remaining in compliance with Wikipedia's requirements.
- If on the other hand you are not 'your friend', then by using your friend's name as your User Account name you are effectively impersonating them – impersonating a real person with your User name is not allowed on Wikipedia. {The poster formerly known as 87.81.230.195} 94.2.5.208 (talk) 03:15, 15 November 2023 (UTC)

What to do if I find a "rotten" link?
In this page: Defensive programming In this paragraph:
--
Oracle is combating legacy problems, such as old source code written without addressing concerns of SQL injection and privilege escalation, resulting in many security vulnerabilities which have taken time to fix and also generated incomplete fixes. This has given rise to heavy criticism from security experts such as David Litchfield, Alexander Kornbrust, Cesar Cerrudo. An additional criticism is that default installations (largely a legacy from old versions) are not aligned with their own security recommendations, such as Oracle Database Security Checklist, which is hard to amend as many applications require the less secure legacy settings to function correctly."
--
The "Oracle Database Security Checklist" link is a 404 not found page. I checked for the page using the Wayback Machine on the Internet Archive, but it apparently wasn't archived because all attempts were unsuccessful at crawl time.
What should be done in this case, and in other similar cases? Should the link be removed, or should it be discussed in the talk page first to find an archived copy?
Avocadoy72 (talk) 14:59, 15 November 2023 (UTC)
- There should not be an inline external link in the body of the article. Such links can be removed, fullstop. You can consider whether the link should be converted into a reference, or into an external link listed at the foot of the article, but IMO you are under no obligation to do so. Especially, you are under no obligatoin to chase down a new URI for a 404. Where a link in the external links section is broken, you can choose whether to remove it, or to try to replace it. --Tagishsimon (talk) 15:02, 15 November 2023 (UTC)
- I've removed the link. --Tagishsimon (talk) 15:04, 15 November 2023 (UTC)
How to improve Wiki submission from content I've made so far?
Hello! I'm very new to adding unto wikipedia and I'm trying to create information about the company I work at. Is anybody available to help improve and optimise my short synopsis for Wikipedia?
My name is SustainableJragon, the draft Wiki article is - Draft:Sustainable Ventures. SustainableJragon (talk) 10:15, 15 November 2023 (UTC)
- SustainableJragon Hello and welcome. First, you must formally declare your relationship with the company, please see the paid editing policy- this is a Terms of Use requirement and mandatory. You should also read conflict of interest.
- You have too many references. That may sound odd, but fewer high quality references are preferable to a large number of low quality references. I think you essentially need to start over from scratch. A Wikipedia article is not a place to summarize the routine activities of the company- an article must summarize what independent reliable sources with significant coverage choose to say about your company, showing how it meets the special Wikipedia definition of a notable company. Announcements of its activities, interviews, and brief mentions do not establish notability. What are your three(only three, please) best sources that offer significant coverage of your company? 331dot (talk) 10:19, 15 November 2023 (UTC)
- @SustainableJragon: I concur with 331dot's assessment. In addition, I suggest reading WP:BACKWARD to understand the best way to create a new article. - UtherSRG (talk) 14:46, 15 November 2023 (UTC)
- Please avoid crass sentences such as "Based in London’s iconic County Hall – it overlooks the Houses of Parliament and the River Thames – ". This is an encyclopedia, not Sexy Startup Monthly. All of iconic, HoP and Thames are unnecessary, and make the article read like a cheap & desperate advert. --Tagishsimon (talk) 14:53, 15 November 2023 (UTC)
- As far as I can tell from in among the buzzwords and promotional bullshit, the subject is a company that rents out office space. The mention of "valuation uplift of 2.8x at the next round of funding" suggests a WeWork-type scam. I recommend having the article rewritten from scratch, by someone who does not have a PR background. Maproom (talk) 16:02, 15 November 2023 (UTC)
Has Table of Contents moved?
I remember seeing the Table of Contents within the article (not as a side bar). Now I only see it when I click on the 3 horizontal bars with 3 dots. Is there a way to see the ToC within the article? Always had to scroll a couple of line to see it. I appreciate your help. Sunandshade (talk) 07:10, 15 November 2023 (UTC)

I believe a userr has been canvassing over the move discussion at Talk:Saiō. - First, it is ideal to know "whether they are exactly doing it" before declaring that there is a problem. Second, Wikipedia:Canvassing is fairly clear on Wikipedia:Canvassing#How to respond to canvassing. All roads lead back to ANI, where a) you already have a monster thread b) where you reported someone else for some non-notable supposed infraction a few days, before backing off from that. WP does not need additional manufactured drama. Please give it a rest and maybe go on that wikibreak you've been talking about. Help with article
I need help with an article: Draft:Susan_Ericksen. It has been rejected multiple times, mostly due to not enough reliable sources and language that sounded overly promotional. Both of these I agreed with and have attempted to resolve. The last editor suggested that I add a COI statement because I interviewed this person on a podcast. Not sure if I did the COI correctly though. I wanted to get some feedback before I attempt to put it into the approval queue again. AJRyan6of7 (talk) 21:18, 15 November 2023 (UTC)
- @AJRyan6of7: The subject passes WP:GNG, the article is neutral and well sourced. I have promoted it as Susan Ericksen. --Tagishsimon (talk) 21:27, 15 November 2023 (UTC)
- Thank you so much! If it's not too much to ask, could you also look at Draft:David_Colacci? The two are married, and much of the info is the same. AJRyan6of7 (talk) 21:29, 15 November 2023 (UTC)
- AJRyan6of7 I would gently note that there is a difference between "rejection" and "declined" in the draft submission process; the former means that a draft may not be resubmitted, the latter means it may be resubmitted. 331dot (talk) 21:31, 15 November 2023 (UTC)
- Sorry, poor choice of words. Thanks for the correction. AJRyan6of7 (talk) 21:36, 15 November 2023 (UTC)
- @AJRyan6of7: Promoted on the same basis. Check the categories; I stole some from his wife, but there maybe more required. Do you want to put a Connected Contributor notice on the talk page of this one? That on Susan's was good. --Tagishsimon (talk) 21:35, 15 November 2023 (UTC)
- Yes, I have no problem putting a Connected Contributor notice there. Thank You! AJRyan6of7 (talk) 21:37, 15 November 2023 (UTC)
